Redesign — attempt 3 here we go

It’s that time of year again, yes, it’s time for a TDDewey.com redesign. Seems like yesterday? Actually, it was about six months ago that the current design was put online. In that six months I’ve learned a fair amount about Wordpress, some cool trickery, and generally feel the need to design my own theme.

Here’s the catch. All these newfangled websites look all fancy schamncy with their high-end, bold, fancy graphics. I’m tired of having a dull (albeit highly functional) website. I’m also tired of it being so dark, but that’s a different issue. So, I set out to start creating a new site by going 180° from where I am. I think that was a mistake:

I’ve spent hours on that thing. In fact, it’s halfway inside of a WordPress theme right now, but I’m abandoning it and starting over. All the time I was working on it, something in my mind was saying it wasn’t quite right. It took my never-subtle roommate to say “you’re cleaner than that” which is, ironically, a compliment… I think.

But it’s true. The reason that it wasn’t working (aside from it still needing a ton of work) was that it isn’t me and website designs need personality. So, it’s back to my pad of paper and a pencil to sketch out some ideas for TDDewey.com version 2.2b*. If any of you have ideas on where I should go with this (or even just really cool websites that already exist) — let me know in the comments.

* 2.0b was a very short lived concept involving high contrast, minimalistic design… also not my thing

yeah…its fun, but indeed not reflective of the author. just as an exercise in creativity, try altering only one or two things that are your “style” at a time. ie; get COLOR or reduce symmetry for some fun.
in addition to that, I have one personal request. please get rid of the 1000eyes project if all it’s ever gonna have is my eyes. that’s a bit creepy you know!
    and…have fun.

My next design — which is getting close to being done in Photoshop, uses a slightly different design style than I’m used too, which is good for showing off capability, but overall it’s my “style” and it certainly encompasses who I am and what I do… in fact, it’s impossible not to.

I’m very excited about this next design — I’m not going to give away any details just yet, but it’s almost there. :-)

PS: about the eyes… I’ll take care of that. I meant to start the project sooner, but realized I need a different lens to do it right. Eventually…

Did you forget to sign-in or did you want to register?. If you're just stopping by, that's okay too.
